If you’re like me, you’re most likely curious to know who is behind the business you follow or support.
You may enjoy digging a little deeper to discover if you share anything in common with them.
So, for this reason, I thought it would only be right to kick off this blog by introducing myself.
I could tell you that my name is Peri, and that I live on an organic farm in the beautiful Riverland in South Australia with my hubby and 7 gorgeous kids. And you’ve probably already gathered that I love to cook (and eat) .
However, aside from these ‘ordinary’ facets, I’d love to give you a deeper insight into who I am.
I thought it would be a little more fun to tell you a handful of random things that most people don’t know about me…(promise that we can still be friends?!)
So, are you ready?
- When I was young, I would chide my dear Mum about putting coconut in everything she made. Now I’m exactly the same Coconut yoghurt on my breaky, coconut water in my smoothies, coconut cream in my curries, desiccated coconut in my bliss balls, coconut milk powder in my hot chocolate mix!
- I have a (slight) addiction to recipes – cookbooks, leaflets from the supermarket, glossy magazines with recipes, food blogs. You name it. My first recipe book was a hand-me-down from my Mum (gifted to her by her Mum) when I was 5 or 6 years old. It was a 1950s cooking book for children. I added to my recipe book collection in high school whenever I was awarded prize money.
- When I travelled around Europe during my gap year, my main staple was a jar of pasta sauce and a packet of pasta. *gasp* (I’ve since ‘upgraded’, and love making my own sauce now)
- I line up the splayds in our cutlery drawer (just giving you the heads up so you know when you come to visit!). Apparently, this is a family trait that I inherited from my dear Mum, which was passed on by her father.
- I drink more water per day than the rest of our 8 family members combined.
- I believe almost every food can be frozen (including avocado, eggs and potatoes). And no, I’m not going to tell how many freezers we have … you’d be shocked
- I don’t sharpen my own knives – my wonderful hubby, Josh, does this for me. It’s amazing how easy food prep becomes when you’ve got a sharp knife.
- I’m rarely seen without a scarf between March and November. That and my apron are my ‘trademarks’
- I’m terrible at carving a bone-in roast. This is why I love cooking roasts in the slow cooker til they literally fall off the bone by themselves. My next favourite option is an easy-carve roast.
- Making and serving food is my love language.
- I love to reinvigorate passion, joy and love in meal preparation, or be the spark that fuels a newfound love for the ‘mundane’ task of cooking.
This last point is the heart and soul of Border Park Kitchen. I live, breathe and truly enjoy refining the art of simplicity in creating wholesome, nourishing and love-filled meals.
I love seeing the look on the faces of burnt-out Mums as they begin to find their creative spark in the kitchen.
If this sounds like something you’re lacking, or something that you feel an affinity for, I’d love to personally invite you to express your interest for my upcoming workshop.
Hopefully you feel as though you know me a little better after hearing about my heart, my quirks and my obscurities.
Now, I’d love to learn more about you! Will you share just one random fact about yourself?
Until next time,
